Roar A-League coach John Aloisi has welcomed the addition of new football director Pedj Radinovic.Brisbane have appointed the A-League’s salary cap enforcer Pedj Radinovic as the club’s new football director, replacing Craig Moore.
Radinovic has worked at FFA for the past six years as compliance manager. He’d been responsible for overseeing the competition’s salary cap, player contracting, transfers and other key administrative tasks.
While little known outside of clubland, Radinovic’s recruitment is seen as a major coup for the embattled Roar, who have been searching for a new football director since Moore’s resignation last month.
Former Socceroo Moore was to serve a two-month period of notice but was put on gardening leave last week by vice-chairman Chris Fong after the embarrassment of ‘jerseygate’, when player numbers began to peel off the back of shirts during their hollow AFC Champions League defeat to Ceres-Negros.
It wasn’t the first time Brisbane had fallen foul of AFC regulations, having last year racked up more than $70,000 in fines during their continental campaign – including their memorable failure of not providing “international buffet-style” meals to travelling Asian officials.
Radinovic appears to be the solution to those problems, with a Roar statement saying he has intimate knowledge of all relevant FIFA, FFA and AFC statutes.
Coach John Aloisi said Radinovic would be an excellent addition to the Roar’s football department.
“We are pleased to welcome Pedj to our football club and I’m looking forward to working closely with him over the coming months,” he said.
“Pedj has a wealth of experience in football, first-hand knowledge of the A-League competition and a unique skill set.”
Radinovic will begin his new role in early March.
“I am extremely grateful for the experiences gained at the FFA and the support I have from them to take the next step in my career with the Roar,” Radinovic said.
“I am excited by the challenge and the opportunity to work with John and his football department in helping the club achieve their potential.”
